I was sitting at my desk today reflecting on the school year. Today was the last day before Winter Break.
I have my iTunes playing and “Where Everyone Knows Your Name” beings to play. I sit back and listen…then I begin to laugh.
My everyday life is JUST like the “Cheers” Theme Song. Below I will list the lyrics to the song and how it relates to my teaching life.
“Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they’re always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
Everyday I go where almost 500 people know my name. I teach!! This includes students, staff, and faculty. I did not add in that total parents, Metro maintenance workers, the postman, delivery people, or afterschool tutorial staff.
“Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?”…. this part is funny. Today starts Winter Break, but I wont REALLY be breaking. I have report cards to do, lesson plans to type up, S-TEAM forms to fill out, etc.
So I’ve redone the song to fit my life…. 🙂
“Making your way to the school each day takes everything I’ve got.
Taking a break from all my students, sure would help a lot.
Sometimes I’d like to call in sick
Sometimes I don’t wanna to go
Where everybody knows my name,
and they’re glad I didn’t call in sick and call a sub.
I’m always here where I can teach,
the students are all the same
I wanna be where everybody not yelling
I wanna go sit in my bed,
the students are getting crazy,
I should’ve called in sick and got a sub.”
LOL! I hope you liked my rendition… 🙂
Below you find the song that was playing. It was redone by an AMAZING artist: PJ Morton
